UBC Farm News

PostDateIcon Wed, 2009/11/11 - 4:55pm | PostAuthorIcon Kelly_Sekhon

Last year the University of BC set aside a 24 hectare portion of the South Campus encompassing the UBC farm and the adjacent forest surround. For the past three years Nature Vancouver has conducted monthly bird surveys in the area and has sponsored the Bert Brink Nature Trail around the farm and forest.

It is unfortunate that preliminary draft academic plans pay little heed to the natural history values of the UBC South Campus Farm. We do however have a chance to express our opinion.

UBC is currently developing a South Campus Academic Plan which will set the future direction for the 24 hectare area of farm and surrounding forest. There will  be  opportunities  for public review  of the  South Campus  Academic  Plan which will be released  in stages as it is prepared. The draft Mission Statement for the UBC South Campus Farm is posted for comment on the UBC SAS (Sustainability Academic Strategy) website.
