Another Peaceful Birding Area Ruined!!

PostDateIcon Thu, 2012/07/12 - 5:21pm | PostAuthorIcon Julian Hudson a...

I have just learned that Richmond has approved a $1million children's adventure park to be built at the north west corner of Terra Nova Urban Park!!

After building up what is now considered a really good birding spot, that ever insatiable desire to "progress" and build has taken over again.

I feel sorry for not seeing this coming, as it was a plan in the works for apparently 8 years!

So long pied-billed grebes, so long bitterns, good luck finding a quiet place to land migrants, etc, etc.

Our children are spoiled for activity and WHAT'S WRONG WITH JUST ENJOYING NATURE!!!  it wouldn't hurt parents to learn something about their environment either!!!

Please write to both Richmond papers and voice your displeasure directly to the council and one responsible for ignoring the natural world (Yvonne Stich, Park Planner).

For info provided after the City Council meeting see this link.  It is a PDF document; over 11MB so couldn't upload it.
