Basking Sharks, the Slaughter of BC's Gentle Giants

Speaker:
Scott Wallace and Brian Gisborne

Imagine seeing sharks the size of a London bus swimming off our coast! Imagine that these sharks consumed plankton for food and what an enormous volume of plankton would be required to sustain such a size!  Then imagine how it was possible for the virtual extermination of what, in fact, were not the predatory monsters generally associated with sharks but rather a slow-moving and placid species known as basking sharks.  Why did it happen?  Join Scott Wallace, a marine conservationist working with the David Suzuki Foundation, and Brian Gisborne, a commercial fisherman who saw basking sharks during his childhood, as they recount the events leading up to the tragic demise of BC's gentle giants.  Will they ever be seen again?  You can see a photo of this amazing shark if you open the poster attached below!
